Although the train would be good I'm now considering a hire-car. I haven't driven in a while and thrashing something to within an inch of its life sounds great. I would also not have to worry about public transport at the other end, or even this end depending on how much stuff I need to take. The only concern is the grand prix traffic, but if you are happy with me staying reasonably late on the Sunday then I can miss the crappiest part of it.

Of course I won't be able to drink on the Sunday, but that may not be a bad thing, and it means I can drink more on the Saturday.

The A43 will actually be shut and the traffic round Towcestor / Northampton / Silverstone will be really shitty all weekend. Your best bet would be to come all the way up to Junction 16 on the M1 and come in from the other angle. It's only an extra mile and even if the M1 is a bit bad, it'll be nothing compared to the Northampton ring road!

Depending on what you want to do on Sunday, you may be better off actually leaving earlier than later. If you play your cards right with the twins, might even give you a nice day out in the car <img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' />

Although I said I'll be bringing the TR, I've taken the decision to take it off the road this weekend - I was going to be re-taxing it today, but now I've realised the only real reason I'll be taxing it is to be able to take it up to the LAN!

IIRC the race starts at 14:00 and lasts about 2 hours. If I leave when it starts the roads will be empty.

If it was a few weeks later you could park it next to my un-silly Vauxhall Vectra I'm getting soon. As it is, there's an even more boring Mondeo in the drive.

I just got off the phone to Mum - and I happened to mention I'd parked the car to one side so Red could get his TR7 on the drive without curbing it! At least in the Astra you've got plenty of clearance... unless you've done disturbing things to it <img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/unsure.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='unsure.gif' />

I now have Quake 3 Arena installed on 3 machines and running really nicely.

I had to down-grade the f*cking nVidia drivers to 77.77 to get it to work though. They've broken the openGL drivers for some AMD processors on later versions! It means I can't use the Asus overclocking utilities, but it doesn't really matter: I get about 200fps anyway <img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' />

I've lost my copy of Descent, so I'm in the process of borrowing a vcopy. It should be 100% borrowed in a couple of hours, so hopefully I'll get that up tonight. Me and KW used to play this all night sometimes, so I recon we should totally pwn you guys <img src='http://i2.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' />
