Do you know who you are?
I've always been jealous of those people who have known from childhood that they want to go into law or medicine, or more importantly they have a dream they can chase. Myself I've never known what I want to be or do and so I'm getting more and more frustrated by the whole thing.
So a question. Are you doing what you've always wanted to do? Are you where you want to be at this stage in life?
If not the excuses better be good.

There are plenty more fish in the sea, get your tackle out and see what bites.
Divers go deeper and stay down for longer.

I always just sort of go
"I'll....do....THAT ONE"
That was for college, didn't know what I wanted to do so I just went....."THAT ONE" then got annoyed with that and went PC's.

From the first time I saw a professor brainstorm book, I knew that was going to be me. I was always only really interested in maths and science, got strait As and went to Oxford.
There I discovered Beer and Women and kinda forgot about the academic thing...
Since then I've been too busy earning a living, drinking or playing with myself to actually do anything else

Am I doing what I always wanted to do? I'm an accountant, what do you think?
Am I where I want to be? Er, no. Where I want to be involves a lot more money than I currently have.
My boyhood dream was actually to be a pilot. I got as far as having an informal chat with an RAF recruitment officer when I was about 16, but the health and fitness standards would have blocked me (I have a spinal problem, nothing major, but it would have been enough to fail the medical). So much for that dream.
Since then, I've just been dossing around from job to job with no real idea of what I wanted to do. I got into accountancy a couple of years back after I decided it was time I got a proper career going. It's not fantastic, but the money's good (eventually) and I seem to be pretty good at it. So it'll do for now!

Well, I do vaguely recall wanting to get paid for drawing pictures when I was young, and I do actually get paid for drawing pictures.belchingmatt wrote:Are you doing what you've always wanted to do?
It's not really what I thought it would be though.

Do you know who you are?
Been thinking about this a lot. Not so much what I wanted to be when I was a kid, but just what I want now. I've pretty much got the whole plan sorted out, and as I think I randomly spouted in a drunken way at the party everything is connected:
Want: nice woman to play happy families with.
To that end; everything else is determined by the society in which you choose to live. Of course, we are limited to a certain extent as to what society we can live in. If you're born to a starving family in the third world, then you'll probably die there. I was lucky enough to be born in England where everyone has options open to them depending only on their own ability to make it work for them. I believe that's more true here than in America; but either is better than some war torn hell.
It would be great to live on a coconut paradise, and I'm sure I've got some dominant Island Paradise gene in me because all I really want to do is drink, catch coconuts, catch a few tasty crustations in a rock-pool and catch a tasty long-haired girl with curvy hips to make babies with.
Unfortunately, modern society has destroyed all of these paradises. Your average beach comber isn't going to be able to afford a roof over their heads, let alone all the bling-bling expected by even the most modest of ladies. These days, looking after a family means a house and money. Money means working. A nice house means working.
Working generally sucks

Do you know who you are?
seriosly I wanted to be epic.
Sadly I am not epic.
I wanted to be a space fighter pilot, an epic cybertrooper, a netspace hacker, a fascist dictator, an epic hero, a revolutonary, a mighty scientist who could transcend dimensions!
However.
I am a Database Administrator...
...
...
A perpetually single Database Administrator.
With a hugging pillow.
I do however have over 40 anime figures, and I have had dinner with Halko Momoi. So it's not all bad.
Excuse? Life.

No don't do it IT support is a road to becoming an empty and hollow shell of a man.
Do you know who you are?
Posted by me on MUMP; regurgitated here for general consumption: wrote:
Supposedly our sense of time alters as we age, which is why, as a child, a minute lasts forever and as an adult, it disappears within an instant.
It's a simple percentage thing; combined with the Buddhist concept that we live our life in Moments rather than Minutes.
Even if we had a uniform distribution of *moments* through our lives, the percentage of moments in this year relative to all the moments that came before is forever diminishing.
When you are 10 year old, 5 years = 99% of your living memories
When you are 40 years old, 5 years = 15% of your memory
Combine this with the diminishing number of moments generated when life is boring, and you get a formula of 3 variables:
Real Time
Perceived Time
Moment Density
One of these variables you can actually do something about. By increasing Moment Density, you can effectively slow down the rate at which you perceive your life to be running out.
Go travel the world and take pictures and make some moments. It's better than 9 'til 5 every-day-the-same moment-free monotony.
Graphs to follow; if I can be arsed to find my Crayolas.
